Our Vision
The Guyana Economic Development Trust (GEDT) is an independent, U.S. philanthropic initiative that incubates and accelerates standout scientific, technological, and generally innovative ideas from the people of Guyana. GEDT provides access to resources, including 21st-Century skills training, coaching, and very early-stage grant capital for startups with breakthrough ideas. GEDT offers its supporters U.S. tax deductibility on contributions, the ability to help equip Guyanese with the skills of the future, and the opportunity to play a role in the progression of the nation.
The Opportunity
Guyana possesses significant natural and human resources. However, debt and risk capital for inventors and innovators in Guyana are scarce, resulting in relatively low levels of scientifically and technologically-oriented entrepreneurial activity relative to elsewhere in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Innovation—a catalyst for entrepreneurship and job creation—is taking place at Guyana. It is happening at the country’s tertiary institutions, in its workplaces, and in local communities.
